I would hope it's a hoax, with Casey Affleck following him around with a camera, recording his documentary.
If it's not a hoax I'd hope someone close to him would get him some help.

It's funny, I was thinking about posting something about this very strange interview. I'm glad we only had to watch 5 minutes of it, because I'm sure the whole 10 would have been murder.
ReplyDeleteThe hard part is seeing a clip from the last time Joaquin was on the show. Affable, funny, well-spoken. I don't think he's got the brains or the guts to do a 'Borat' to Dave, I think he's off his rocker.
And after Dave was so nice to him. A guy who has a shaggy beard like that and is that humorless about it. C'mon dude.

ReplyDeletei saw the whole ten minute clip yesterday and it was too painful to be real. i've wondered if maybe it's not a hoax in the any kaufman sense, like he's going to come back with "just kidding", but if it's more of an experiment about how far a star can fall. and maybe how fast. just think how unastonishing this would be if it were ashton kutcher. anyone less respected and widely viewed as having it together. that might make for an interesting documentary.
ReplyDeletebecause if phoenix wasn't totally baked or genuinely out of his mind, his was a motivated performance out there that night. he was not going to be broken, no matter how painful it was. and i'm here to say, it was painful.

ReplyDeleteWow, just wow. Based on his last movie (and everything before that), I'd have to say that it is method acting to the extreme, drugs, or alien replicons from beyond the moon, because this is not Joaquin Phoenix.
