This, Even This--TOO--Shall Pass

If you're paying attention at all right now online, you'll know that OK GO has done it again. I guess that last mind-blowing, totally awesome video for This Too Shall Pass that we saw last month was just a stroll in the park for the geeks behind OK GO's public presence. This time they've created something truly monumental to behold.

But, if I'm ditching objectivity, I'm not sure I feel that same... lift this time around. That "tickle behind the navel" that Mikey observed. Yeah, it's something you're going to want to watch 17 times to get your head around it, but I miss the joyful part of the viewing experience, not just the "how'd they do that" which will undoubtedly be your first response.

Far be it from me to take anything away from this video. It is truly an achievement and if I were OK GO I might just give up now. Because to top this is to call on powers that don't exist on Earth.

  2. Holy cow! That was out of control. I wonder how many takes it took. My only critique: where is the cute little Japanese saying at the end like in the videos Mikey posted a while back?

  3. Definitely awesome! I wonder why they made a second version of this song instead of saving the "ultimate dominoes" concept to go with another song.

  4. I think the 8th graders at Eisenhower Jr. High are going to have a little OK GO infused into their physics lesson tomorrow.

  5. I will be fielding all questions for this video, as I am the resident authority on Rube Goldberg simple machines and awesome music videos. The phrase you're looking for, Rob, is pitagora suichi, or, Pythagorean switch.

The video was performed live on March 1st. If you watch the video again look for the step were the TV gets hit with the sledgehammer, you can see how many times they practiced by counting the smashed TVs.

(Say with a Transylvanian accent) One totally awesome video. Two, two totally awesome videos. Ha ha.

  7. I watched it 8 times in a row. For some reason, my favorite part is the falling umbrellas.

Also, for some reason that I can't really identify, I think that I like the marching band version better.
