Anxious Hipsters, Rejoice!

Arcade Fire are back. In aged and faded technicolor.

Brand new (though made to look aged and faded) album release tomorrow. *relieved sigh*

  2. After given the album a listen (thanks, Grooveshark!), I'm reminded that I'm not really a huge fan of the band, and am probably not really qualified to comment on it.

But since when has that stopped me, amirite?! I didn't like it. I mean, I liked it about as much as Funeral, which I liked okay, but probably wouldn't be brought to tears if I heard them play Wake Up in concert.

Also Spraw II sounds like a rip-off of Heart of Glass. There...I said it.

I guess I ought to shave my mustache, sell my fixed-gear bicycle and throw away my keffiyeh, since I'm clearly not cut out for this scene.

  3. Whatever dude. I like the first few songs--which generated my "This rocks" comment, but after that I wasn't blown away either.

  4. Woah.

I didn't expect anyone to notice that I'd commented on this old post. I guess nothing gets past Administrator Rob.

  5. You're both wrong. DEAD wrong. The whole album is good, but it takes time. You need to listen carefully. What I've noticed about all Arcade Fire albums is there are a few songs I like off of each of them on the first few listens and many that I don't care for. After time the songs I didn't like typically become my favorites. I'll be darned if I don't tear up when I listen to "No Cars Go" off of Neon Bible.

I also think the thematic threads of childhood, religion, community, aging, home, and family are quite lovely and thought provoking. So suck it Benson!!!

While I believe what I just wrote I realize how snooty it sounds. I'm off to have some cake with ma-MA and play the grand pi-ANO.

  7. What I can't figure out is why I keep hearing about this album on every radio show I listen to or magazine I read. These folks have freaking good publicists OR SOMETHING. I'm getting kind of annoyed by it.
