Pac what now?

It's all over the place that the Pac 10 will invite Utah into it's fold officially later this week. Utah will undoubtedly fall all over itself accepting the invitation. Leaving their rivals to the south in their wake and unfortunately weakening a MWC which was just buoyed up by adding Bosie State.

Bleacher Report had this interesting take on the situation.

It seems a pity for Utah and BYU to not be in the same conference, and why chose Colorado over BYU for inclusion in the Pac 10? I seem to remember Colorado being good at football...Actually I can't remember the last time. And while there are lots of things to consider it's strange that the Pac-10 is made up of paired teams (USC and UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State, etc) and now...Colorado and Utah. It doesn't seem well thought out.

I'm interested in other reactions. What say ye?

  1. Thanks for the link Tony, that was definitely an interesting read.
I think this whole thing is bogus!

  2. Lousy BC$. I was hoping the Big 12 would fall apart and the MWC would scoop up the KS schools--then I could have seen the Cougs play! Drat!

That article makes a good point. Colorado and Utah over BYU, seriously? If it's about athletics and revenue then it doesn't make sense.

  3. The real reason BYU wasn't invited is the mascot. They've already got a team of Cougs in the conference, and adding the Cougars would be a logistical nightmare.

Blame Washington State. I bet the Pac-10 would drop WSU for BYU if they could.

  4. Oh, and I just spent 10 minutes watching the Dempsey goal .gif banner. Good choice, Rob.

  5. I've been holding out hope all week that BYU would get a Big 12 invite because there had been some rumblings but no dice!

  6. I think that it was pretty clear from the get-go that BYU wouldn't entertain an offer anyway. If BYU joined then it couldn't dictate its own terms like it does in the MWC. It would be pretty hard to guarantee no Sunday play for all sports.

  7. Actually the word on the street is that BYU has been in communication with the Big 12 for last while. Evidently Texas and OU would like to have BYU join but the no Sunday Play is not viewed kindly by the tv networks. Though this is all secondhand hearsay.

  8. Joining the Big 12 would be sweet. We could kick their trash and injure their quarterbacks on a consistent basis. BOOM! Shoulder Sprain!!!

Isn't Baylor in the Big 12? Do they play on Sunday?

  9. Baylor's in the Big 12 and I imagine they play on Sunday--but I have no actual knowledge. BYU would own the Big 12 north division. If the Utes stay in the Pac-10 and we get left in the cold it would just be too much to bear.
